Inside front cover blurb:
THE SPACE BETWEEN THE BARS
Donald Swann
One of today's leading entertainers shares his experiences, ideas, jokes, music and the friends he has encountered in an exceptionally busy life.
'I've often wondered what Donald Swann thinks about when we're on stage together. Here it all is. The book reminds me of the Confessions of Saint Augustine. But not much.'
MICHAEL FLANDERS
Inside back cover blurb:

Born in Wales in 1923 of Anglo-Russian parentage, Donald Swann showed an early talent for music and languages, two enthusiasms which fused in a passion for Greek folk music discovered when in Greece in 1943 with the Friends Ambulance Unit. On his return to England after the war he became a song writer.
His partnership with Michael Flanders took him round the world with the Drop of a Hat shows, when he sang the Hippopotamus Song in several languages. Recently he has turned to more serious music; his characteristic settings of poetry, folk songs and modern carols reflect his Christian pacifism.
His talent as an entertainer is agreeably evident in The Space Between the Bars. In a mood at once serious and funny he looks at life, his own and other people's, and discovers a unity in his ideas, words and music.
Donald Swann is married, has two children, and lives in Battersea.
