Episode guide

This show is full of subtle and not-so-subtle references to other Cosgrove Hall productions. I've made a note of all the ones I've spotted, along with other random observations, under Did you notice?

Series 1 | Series 2

Series 1 (September 1991 - November 1991)

Panda-Monium! 06-Sep-1991
V&H attempt to steal a rare African tree panda from Regent's Park Zoo.
Did you notice? There are Dangermouse toys in Bumbley's Toy Store.

Spacial Event 13-Sep-1991
V&H are accidently blasted into space, where they have a close encounter of the stupid kind.

Water Boobies 20-Sep-1991
V&H go diving for treasure in the hold of a sunken galleon.

Cowboys and Indiscipline 27-Sep-1991
On a trip to the Wild West, Victor plans a daring gold robbery and Hugo makes a new "friend".

Hyp-Not-Isn't 18-Oct-1991
Victor uses hypnosis to become a better criminal, but things don't quite go according to plan...

Auto-Manic Transmission 25-Oct-1991
A technologically advanced car proves too much for V&H to handle.
Did you notice? Mr Stootley's new secretary is a Miss Boathook, who used to work for "a guy named K" (Colonel K from Dangermouse, obviously).

The Hole Truth and Nothing... 01-Nov-1991
V&H's plans to tunnel into the National Bank of Ruritania go slightly wrong when they accidentally break into the prison next door.
Did you notice? 1. In the fancy-dress shop, Victor tells Hugo he can't go to the party as Count Duckula, to which Hugo replies "Aw, why not? I can do his voice, you know". Of course he can, they're both voiced by David Jason. 2. As V&H are tunnelling out of the prison, they disturb a mole who says "Oh dear, I shall have to tell Badger!". This is a reference to The Wind in the Willows.

The Case of the Vose Vase 08-Nov-1991
V&H pose as domestic staff in an attempt to rob the wealthy Hobbes-Sutclyffe family.

Dummy Run 15-Nov-1991
While on holiday in the Mediterranean, V&H get mixed up with a crooked ventriloquist.
Did you notice? V&H are staying on the island of Formaggio, which is Spanish for "cheese". Their hotel, and all the characters we meet on the island, are named after types of cheese (Miss Ricotta, Sergeant Mozzarella etc.). No, I don't know why.

Scout's Dishonour 22-Nov-1991
V&H join the Boy Scouts as part of scheme to rob a stately home.

Escort Red-Handed 29-Nov-1991
Hugo's new job as a waitress (don't ask) takes an unexpected turn when a short-sighted American millionaire asks for his hand in marriage.
Private Ears 06-Dec-1991
With the help of Penelope, Interpoll and Meccaneaux, V&H try to spy on the ambassador of Gazania.

Did you notice? This episode, like many others, features Count Duckula bit-players Hawkeye Soames and Dr Potson.

Blunder on the Orient Express 13-Dec-1991
V&H try to be daring train robbers, but end up accused of a crime they didn't commit.

Back to the top Follow Baskerville back to the top

Series 2 (September 1992 - December 1992)

Acting the Goat 11-Sep-1992
V&H are hired to steal a ring from famous actress Wanda Nicetime.

Artful Dodgers 18-Sep-1992
V&H pose as "Art dealers to the very, very wealthy", and are tailed around New York by a mysterious detective.
Did you notice? One of the cinemas in New York city is showing a Dangermouse movie.

Is there a Doctor in the House? 25-Sep-1992
V&H pretend to be doctors at St Spooners hospital, in order to steal an experimental quick-growth formula.
Did you notice? The name of the hospital is a reference to the Rev. Spooner, the first person to famously transpose letters and sounds of words in a sentence, e.g. You have hissed my mystery lecture. As we know, Victor is always doing this.

Woof and Tumble 02-Oct-1992
Underworld boss Mr Big orders V&H to look after his fluffy dog, Caesar, while he is on holiday, but disaster follows when Caesar falls in love with a cow and ends up being dognapped.

Treasure Haunt 09-Oct-1992
Another trip to Hobbes-Sutclyffe hall follows when V&H get their hands on a treasure map belonging to a certain Transylvanian Count.
Did you notice? It should be fairly obvious that Duckula, Igor and Nanny guest star in this episode.

Tempers Fugit 16-Oct-1992
A wealthy horologist (that's clock collector to you) hires V&H to steal a clock that can transport people through time.
Did you notice? The title of this episode refers to the Latin expression "Tempus Fugit", or "time flies".

French Exchange 23-Oct-1992
V&H go to work for Greenback and Dangermouse, in an attempt to steal DM's top-secret Mark 3 car.
Did you notice? Duh!

The Poultry-Geist 30-Oct-1992
V&H pose as "spookzappers" to rid a strangely familiar castle of a fake ghost. But is it fake after all?
Did you notice? The old castle that V&H pretend is haunted is Castle Duckula. The title of the episode should tell you who or what the "ghost" is.

Jester Moment 06-Nov-1992
V&H become jesters to the Prince of Vulgaria, in order to steal the famous crown jewels.
Did you notice? The title card of this episode looks exactly like the Alias the Jester logo.

Stone Me! 13-Nov-1992
V&H succeed in stealing the world's most famous diamond, Belshazzar's Bunion – or so they think.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Dolt 20-Nov-1992
V&H get their hands on the plans for a top-secret concrete-dissolving ray – just the thing for getting through the walls of, say, a bank.
Did you notice? This episode's title apparently refers to the Alistair McLean novel Tinker, Tailer, Soldier, Spy but I've no idea what that has to do with anything.
Pie in the Sky 27-Nov-1992
A bizarre tale of aliens, custard pies and underwear. No, really.
Did you notice? Now, someone help me out on this one. I think this episode is a parody of something, but I don't know what. For starters, Interpoll comments at one point "This is just like that movie, innit?", although he doesn't say which one. There was also an Animaniacs episode that featured a bunch of aliens led by a talking toe, and that's just too weird to be a coincidence. Anyone?

Unstable Fable 04-Dec-1992
A penniless aristocrat hires V&H to steal a famous racehouse, and they attempt to do so in the world's most pathetic horse disguise.

The Hound of the Hobbes-Sutclyffes 11-Dec-1992
V&H pose as famous detective duo Hawkeye Soames and Dr Potson in order to rob Hobbes-Sutclyffe hall (you'd think they'd have learned their lesson about this place by now, but no).
Did you notice? Another episode featuring Hawkeye Soames and Dr Potson.

Yule be Sorry 18-Dec-1992
V&H try to take people's money by getting them into the Christmas spirit. One problem – it's July.

But me no Butlers 24-Dec-1992
In an effort to hide from the law, V&H become butler and housemaid to crime lord Mr Underfelt.
Did you notice? Underfelt has a pet white mouse with an eyepatch, who is called Damien. Hmm, sounds almost like "DM"...

Do-In Yourself 29-Dec-1992
In a last-ditch attempt to pull off a great crime, V&H order the "Behemoth Guide to being a Master Criminal" (satisfaction guaranteed or someone else's money back). Despite a catalogue of disasters, things eventually seem to be going their way...but then...
Did you notice? Another appearance by Soames and Potson.
